The officer instructs the man to step out of the vehicle and informs him that he is under arrest. When Jones fails to exit the vehicle, a struggle ensues, and the truck begins to drive away with the officer partially inside.
The officer fires two shots at the suspect, who then slumps over in the vehicle. Officers pulled the man from the truck, handcuffed him and attempted first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
Police reported finding a loaded firearm near the suspect after he was removed from the vehicle. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation, which will be reviewed by the state attorney general’s office and submitted to the Summit County Grand Jury, according to the report. The Akron Police Department is conducting a separate internal review.
