HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J.— The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has released body camera footage showing a man shooting officers, leading officers to return fire and kill him, WPVI reported.
The March 8 incident began when officers responded to a domestic dispute, according to the report. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a relative outside before entering the home, video released on July 25 shows.
The person outside the home can be heard telling officers that the suspect did not make any threats but was calling them derogatory names and insulting them. The person also stated that the suspect was a hunter and had weapons in the home.
When officers entered the home, the suspect emerged from behind an entryway, raised a long gun and immediately fired shots at the officers.
Hamilton Township Police Officers Derek Fiabane and Paul Piromalli exchanged gunfire with the suspect inside the home. Both Fiabane and the suspect were shot during the incident, according to the report.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, with a rifle and a handgun found in his possession, according to the report. Fiabane was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
