KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department released body camera footage showing an officer-involved shooting of a woman who charged at officers with a knife, WATE reported.

On June 20, officers responded to a call reporting a woman was armed with a knife and threatening to harm herself and others, according to the report. The footage, released on July 1, shows three officers approaching the home where they hear someone yelling inside.

As the door opens, a female suspect can be seen running toward the officers with a knife. The officers give repeated instructions to stop and drop the knife. The woman ignored instructions, causing officers to open fire.

After the woman fell to the ground, the officers pleaded with her to stay down and show her hands. The woman instead retrieved the knife and began to stand up, video shows. Officers fired again and the woman fell to the ground.

She reached for the knife again, leading officers to fire another shot, video shows.

The woman was struck multiple times, according to the report. The footage shows officers rendering medical aid before she was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
