JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released body camera and surveillance footage of an officer-involved shooting of a man who barricaded himself in a structure and shot at officers through windows, News4Jax reported.
The footage shows Paton Pinette, 26, using a street sign to break a glass door and enter a business on Dec. 27 where he fired multiple shots with a handgun. He then traveled to a Winn-Dixie store, where he rammed the front door with his car after firing shots through it, according to the report.
The footage, released on Jan. 12, represents only a part of Pinette’s all-day crime spree, which included stealing and firing a revolver from his father’s store, threatening to slice his parents’ throats in their home and threatening a civilian with a gun, saying “it’s a bad day to garden,” according to the report. Pinette suffered from severe mental health issues and was just released from a mental health resource center, his father told the sheriff’s office.
After Pinette threatened the civilian, police went to the scene to investigate. At the apartment complex where the threat occurred, officers determined Pinette was inside a building.

Officers instructed Pinette to exit the building, at which point he fired two shots at them through a window. Officers returned fire but were unable to determine whether they had hit Pinette, according to the report.
SWAT was called to the scene and attempted to negotiate with Pinette for hours, according to the report.
Video shows Pinette open the door and step out of the apartment while holding a gun in one hand and a knife in the other. A SWAT officer then shot Pinette, who died at the scene.
