DEKALB, Ill. — Newly-released body camera footage shows a man attempting to throw knives at officers inside a car dealership, leading to an officer-involved shooting, WIFR reported.
An investigation by Illinois State Police has found the use of force during the Oct. 23 incident to be justified, according to the report. Officers were called to the dealership after reports of a customer threatening people with two large knives, breaking windows and stabbing an employee.
Body camera footage released by Illinois State Police on Nov. 26 shows officers repeatedly ordering the suspect to drop the knives, but he refused.
As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, the suspect turned toward them, raised one of the knives, and said, “Hey, look!” before throwing it at an officer. The knife was later found lodged in a wall behind where Officer Bollow was standing, according to the report. Officers then fired multiple rounds, striking the suspect and causing him to drop the second knife.
Officers secured the area by kicking the remaining knife away and began rendering aid to the suspect. He remains in medical care and is facing charges, including armed violence, attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and aggravated assault, according to the report.
