DETROIT — Ford’s Mustang Mach-E will be tested by the Michigan State Police to determine if it’s a viable option for law enforcement, according to Autoweek. The Mach-E is Ford’s first big push into the electric vehicle market, according to the report.

Ford has already debuted a police-ready version of the car in the UK, says Autoweek.

Interest in electric police cars has grown as more departments participate in Tesla pilot programs. The Fremont Police Department in California, home of the country’s first Tesla police pilot program, now has two Tesla vehicles.

The Mach-E will be tested with other 2022 models submitted to MSP. Previous years’ test results can be found here.
