IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Idaho Falls police arrested a man Tuesday night after a woman said he pulled a gun on her while attempting to make a “citizen’s arrest.”

The woman told police she was driving on the 400 block of 10th Street when she saw Jason Gordon Lawrence, 37, throw a dog out of the vehicle he was driving. She began to follow him.

The woman said she drove in the turn lane trying to get Lawrence to stop on Holmes Avenue. She and Lawrence then turned onto a street near Bill’s Bike Shop.

She asked Lawrence about the dog, she said, and he got out of his car and came to her driver’s side window. The woman told police that Lawrence said she was driving drunk and that he was making a citizen’s arrest. He tried to handcuff her and pointed a gun at her, according to the police report. She said she drove away and called police.

The woman met police at Common Cents on 17th Street and told them that Lawrence had portrayed himself as a police officer and tried to force her out of her vehicle.

Officers found Lawrence on the 400 block of Garfield Street at about 11:10 p.m. He was arrested and booked into the Bonneville County Jail for aggravated assault

Lawrence, an Idaho Falls resident, had a Glock Model 27 at the time of arrest. He has a concealed-weapons permit.

The police report did not include any further information about a dog.

Aggravated assault is a felony punishable by up to five years and prison or a fine of up to $5,000.
