Charges dropped in notorious Ohio concealed carry case

June 8 incident drew attention after video of Officer Daniel Harless berating driver went viral

CANTON, Ohio— Municipal Judge Stephen Belden on Wednesday threw out concealed carry violation charges against William Bartlett of Brewster, Ohio, convinced that prosecutors were not able to prove their case against him.

It is a case that had already created outrage because of the profanity-laden outburst by Canton Officer Daniel Harless after he was told that Bartlett had a concealed carry permit and gun.

Bartlett, 52, was stopped by Canton police at 1:30 a.m. on June 8 near the intersection of Tuscarawas and Newton Streets. Officers describe the the intersection as a high crime area with known prostitution, drugs and gang activity.
