RALEIGH, N.C. — New bodycam and security video shows a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened outside the Raleigh Police Department last month. The video shows Reuel Rodriguez-Nunez throwing Molotov cocktails at squad cars and officers before he’s shot.
The May 7 incident began when police spotted Rodriguez-Nunez outside the police station, ABC 11 reported. Security video shows Rodriguez-Nunez throwing Molotov cocktails at parked squad cars, two of which catch fire.
At one point in the video, Rodriguez-Nunez throws a Molotov cocktail at an occupied cruiser, forcing the officer inside to reverse away from the flames.
Rodriguez-Nunez refuses orders to drop another Molotov cocktail as officers approach him with guns drawn, the video shows
“Don’t do it, bro. Don’t do it. Do not do it,” one officer says.
While surrounded, Rodriguez-Nunez turns and tosses a lit Molotov cocktail at a nearby officer, video shows. That’s when police opened fire, killing Rodriguez-Nunez, ABC 11 reported. The container narrowly missed a lieutenant who moved out of the way just in time, according to FOX 8.
Rodriguez-Nunez had a history of attacking police officers, records show. The man was accused of assaulting an officer in 2020, and, while in jail, he threw a milk container and human feces at two detention officers, FOX 8 reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
