COCOA, Fla. — Dashcam video released Tuesday shows the moments surrounding a fatal officer-involved shooting that left two dead last week.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office posted the video on Facebook, which shows two squad cars following a suspect vehicle through a neighborhood. The agency said Deputies Jafet Santiago-Miranda and Carson Hendren were doing a follow-up investigation on what they believed was a stolen car.
In the video, the suspect driver pulls into a driveway and both deputies get out of their vehicles with guns drawn.
Santiago-Miranda repeatedly says, “stop the vehicle.”
The driver turns the car around in the road and appears to drive straight at Santiago-Miranda.
The officer “was then forced to fire his service weapon in an attempt to stop the deadly threat of the car from crashing into him,” the agency wrote on Facebook.
Two teenagers were killed in the shooting. They were identified as 16-year-old Angelo Crooms, the driver, and 18-year-old Sincere Pierce. The involved deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave as the investigation continues.
