NEW YORK — A man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he tried to carjack an off-duty NYPD cop earlier this week, according to New York Daily News.
Surveillance footage of the incident was obtained Wednesday by CBS New York. The video shows a white Mercedes, driven by the off-duty officer, pull over on a street corner. The officer opens the door briefly and then closes it when he sees the carjacking suspect approach. The suspect rips the door open again, at which point the officer gets out of his vehicle and appears to shoot him.

The officer was on his way home from work when the would-be carjacker approached him and knocked on the car’s window with a gun, the Daily News reported. The suspect didn’t know his victim was a cop, police said. Authorities recovered two guns and a knife at the scene, according to the Daily News.
The officer wasn’t injured.
