WASHINGTON — New cellphone video obtained by The Washington Post on Friday shows the moments surrounding a fatal shooting inside the U.S. Capitol.
Ashli Babbitt, who had entered the building with other pro-Trump rioters, was shot dead by a U.S. Capitol police officer Wednesday.
The video shows police officers standing in front of a set of doors. Rioters are shouting and pushing, trying to get past them. Later, the police officers move out of the way and a man starts to bash in the doors’ windows with what looks like an American flag.
Someone shouts, “there’s a gun!” An officer on the other side of the door is seen with a firearm drawn.
Babbitt is trying to climb through a window when a single shot goes off and she falls to the ground.
The video is slowed down and paused in parts to focus attention on specific individuals in the chaotic scene.
