EL CAJON, Calif. — A police officer wounded in last week’s standoff-turned-suicidal rampage in El Cajon has been released from the hospital.

Officer Jarred Slocum is resting with his family after being released from Sharp Memorial Hospital Monday night, according to NBC San Diego. Police say he is doing well and will continue his recovery at home.

A four-year veteran, 28-year-old Slocum was shot in the head a week ago as responded to a report that a man with a gun had entered a house and set it on fire.

Video captured dramatic footage of the standoff, in which a bloodied Slocum fired at the gunman before collapsing against a fence. Officer Tim McFarland, his partner, pulled him to safety.

“Officer Slocum’s family would like to thank the El Cajon Police Department and the community for their prayers and well wishes,” El Cajon Police Chief Pat Sprecco said.
