LAS VEGAS — This was the first year that Noah Swanger’s father couldn’t walk him to class on his first day of school. But the 9-year-old wasn’t alone. Instead, Noah was escorted to by his late father’s fellow police officers.
The sweet moment was shared on Twitter by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. Video shows Noah hugging several officers on his first day of fourth grade.
“This is his connection to his dad on the police department, so it means a lot to him that they’re all here for him,” said Christa Swanger, Noah’s mom, to WAFB.
According to the agency, Noah wants to be a police officer himself someday.
Officer Jason Swanger died on June 24 due to complications from COVID-19, according to 8 News. He was a seven-year veteran of the agency and the second known LVMPD death related to COVID-19.
