WASHINGTON, D.C. — A police officer with the Metro Special Police was shot and killed Tuesday night, reported WTOP.
Authorities identified the officer as a woman but did not immediately name her.
“My heart goes out to the family to this Special Police officer,” said D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee to WTOP.
According to WTOP, the officer was on duty and working on behalf of a nearby complex. Officers found her with a gunshot wound and “unconscious and not breathing.”
Police say they are looking for a white Camry with dark tinted windows, WTOP reported. The investigation is ongoing.
The Metro Special Police is a private law enforcement agency of commissioned officers serving the D.C. area, according to its website.
