Photo: Cop takes lunch break to share pizza with homeless woman

GOLDSBORO, NC — A bystander’s photo of a police officer’s act of kindness has gone viral.

According to CNN, Goldsboro Police Department Officer Michael Rivers spotted a homeless woman on Wednesday wearing a shirt that read: “Homeless. The fastest way of becoming a nobody.”

The message struck a chord with Rivers, who grabbed some pizza at a nearby shop and spent his lunch break sharing it with the woman. Over 45 minutes, they discussed their life stories with each other.

“Homeless people are just people who are down on their luck,” Rivers told CNN. “It can happen to anybody.”

The act of kindness was captured by a passerby and shared on Facebook, where it has garnered over 4K shares and 2K likes.

“I come to work and my method is, ‘Who can I bless today? Who can I make smile?” Rivers told CNN. ‘“I’m not the one that wants to take somebody’s father or mother away and put them in jail.”
