CAMERON, Texas — A Texas police officer died after being shot while serving a search warrant related to a domestic violence call on Wednesday evening.
Cameron police responded to a report of a gunshot victim at a store and learned that the victim had run from her home after her spouse shot her in the back of the neck, KCEN reported.
Cameron officers obtained a warrant and with the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, Rockdale Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety went to the residence.
In a Facebook post, Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore stated that when officers went to serve the warrant, the suspect opened fire and law enforcement personnel returned fire.
One Cameron officer was wounded and transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, Fox 44 reported. The suspect was also mortally wounded.
The identity of the fallen officer was not reported pending notification of next of kin. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
