DENVER — Body camera footage caught the tense moment Denver Police officers and firefighters grabbed and pulled a man to safety after he tried to jump off a bridge last week.
The Denver PD posted the incident on Facebook, which shows a man threatening to jump off a bridge as crisis negotiators attempt to talk him away from the edge. In the video, detective Rueban Garduno, a crisis negotiator, can be seen talking to the man. The department said Garduno, along with other officers and a mental health clinician, worked to talk the man down for several hours.
Five hours after the initial call, the man started to run along the railing and attempted to jump over the edge. However, officers and firefighters were able to grab the man and pull him back to safety.
“If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, anxiety, mental or emotional instability, or suicidal thoughts, you are not alone and there is help. Finding treatment is nothing to be ashamed of – just call, text or chat 988,” the department wrote on Facebook.
