CASEYVILLE, Ill. — An Illinois police officer is being lauded as a hero after he came to the rescue of a choking infant last week.
According to a Facebook post from the Caseyville Police Department, Officer Travis Hoguet was first on the scene Friday where he found a choking baby boy. Hoguet gave the infant back blows and was soon able to clear his airway.
Dashcam video provided by the agency shows Hoguet patting the baby’s back while the mother stands by in distress.
“I flipped him over on my left arm and had soft blows to the back. About the fifth or sixth blow, it just projectiled out and there was a big ol’ gasp of air you could tell he was relieved,” Hoguet told FOX 2.
The infant was taken to the hospital as a precaution but is now back at home recovering, the agency said.
“Something like this is going to be on the top of the list for a while. I’m never going to forget it,” Hoguet said.
