MILWAUKEE — Deputy Kristine Rodriguez and Ouida Parish met by chance at a Valentine’s Day party at a senior center in Milwaukee. Neither expected the bond that would come from it.
It was at the party that Parish, a two-time cancer survivor, got to talking about her car troubles, reported FOX 6. Parish explained that she needs her car to get to doctor’s appointments and to pick up her lifesaving medications.
“She really just stayed on my mind. I’ve never had done anything like this before,” Rodriguez told FOX 6. “But I felt like I needed to do something. I felt compelled after having that conversation with her.”
So, Rodriguez asked a tow company to take Parish’s car in for repair. According to the report, her car was outfitted with new tires, a catalytic converter and engine mount – all at no cost to Parish.
“I never imagined this to happen. I was just telling, just talking to them, and she reached out and made my day,” Parish said. “It means more than anyone could imagine.”
Rodriguez says she was moved by Parish’s reaction and was glad to help.
“Just seeing it all come together … all the working hands that it takes to be able to do this for one person it speaks volumes,” Rodriguez said.
