TARRYTOWN, N.Y — A boy fighting cancer was sworn in as an officer for the day, News 12 reported.

Ethan Hierro, 5, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a brain cancer with no cure, 16 months ago, according to the report. He has wanted to be a police officer since he was 3 years old.

“He really is always arresting everyone in the house and putting us in jail, and it’s really just Ethan,” Isabel Estevez, Ethan’s mother, told News 12.

Tarrytown Police Department officers purchased a tiny uniform and took it to a local tailor to have patches added to the sleeves, according to the report. They picked him up in a police procession and took him to the station.

A CBS Evening News report showed Ethan being sworn in to the department before being issued his own custom cruiser.

“He’s so young and so little to be going through all of this but he’s so strong and brave,” Hierro’s sister, Eva, told News 12.
