The graduation ceremony for the Egyptian Police Academy’s class of 2020 has gone viral. As of Tuesday, the video has received nearly 300,000 views on Twitter. It’s not difficult to understand the appeal.
The event featured an eye-catching mix of choreographed stunts, gymnastics, parade floats and strong-man events – many performed shirtless – not to mention the flaming hoops and zip lines.
The New York Post called the event “an over-the-top display of brawn and bravado.” The ceremony featured a motor parade of armored vehicles and pick-up trucks, each carrying a line of bare-chested recruits.
“Crime in Egypt is way different than I expected,” one person joked on Twitter.
In between the acrobatics, some “standard” police operations were thrown into the mix, like scaling drainpipes, fighting suspects from moving truck beds and musket work.
The ceremony was reportedly performed in front of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, according to the Post.
