DALLAS — The Dallas Police Department will be creating a “Constitutional Policing Unit” to ensure the department is upholding the rights of citizens, FOX 4 reported.
Chief Eddie Garcia explained that instead of dismantling gang or narcotics units, as many cities did after the 2020 protest movement, the Dallas Police Department will create a unit from the most experienced specialized officers to train other special units.
"[The unit] enables officers to know what to look for, what to do, when they see their partner officer doing something that tarnishes our badge,” said Chief Garcia.
The unit will have a website and database that will launch within the next year, according to the report.
Additionally, Garcia announced that all officers will be required to wear body cameras, including while on task forces and working off-duty jobs. All officer misconduct investigations will now be conducted in one year or less.
