LAS VEGAS — Body camera footage shows a knife-wielding suspect grab an officer’s patrol car door frame before the officer fatally shoots him.

Officer William Pollock was responding to an attempted carjacking call Tuesday when the shooting occurred. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Caleb Blaylock, was armed with a 10-inch knife, Fox 5 Vegas reported. The carjacking victim said he struck Blaylock with a hammer before the suspect fled on foot.

When Pollock approached Blaylock, the suspect pulled a knife. Pollock told him to drop it, but Blaylock refused and began stabbing himself repeatedly.

Video shows Pollock attempt to exit his vehicle when Blaylock grabs the door frame with one hand while holding the knife in the other. Assistant Sheriff Todd Fasulo told the news station Pollock then fired two rounds.

When Blaylock fell to the ground, Pollock told him to drop the knife again, but Blaylock rose and appeared to be preparing to stab Pollock. The officer then fired four additional rounds. Blaylock was pronounced dead at the scene.

Blaylock had a previous criminal history including possession of a controlled substance and open and gross lewdness.

Per policy, Pollock is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
