When the Wake County (North Carolina) Sheriff’s Office decided to implement body-worn cameras, it needed two key attributes. One, it wanted deputies to be able to upload their video directly from the field, rather than having to return to their stations. And two, it wanted an easy deployment and transition that didn’t bog its personnel down with new ways of doing things.

Its answer came from Getac, courtesy of its vendor GovDirect, a provider of custom technology and hardware solutions for public-sector emergency organizations.

“The Getac body-worn camera is an excellent solution in the public sector for several reasons,” said GovDirect CEO Danielle Zoz. “One is the product itself is very rugged. In addition, one of the most important things about evidence capture is how you store the data and how that data is organized.”

The system offered deputies a straightforward workflow that was easy to get up and running. Now it’s providing the department reliable video without the need for a lot of attention and maintenance.

“This is not a system we have to babysit on a regular basis from an IT standpoint or really an operational standpoint,” said Major Chris Creech. “The end user implementation was pretty easy. The training for the cameras was easy. Our end users had no problems understanding it, no issues from an operational standpoint.”
