The biggest firearms event in the country has been canceled, according to a statement Friday from the National Shooting Sports Foundation and CEO Joe Bartozzi. The decision is due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases.

Organizers hoped to expand permissible levels for large group gatherings, but with positive rates peaking during their planning period, SHOT Show officials decided to cancel.

“Given the sheer complexities, diminishing timeline and immense logistical planning required to conduct a trade show as large as SHOT, NSSF simply could not move forward at this point with so many unknowns and variables,” the statement reads in part.

Officials said that vendor floor space had nearly been sold out, with more companies than ever planning to attend.

Organizers say they intend to put on a 2022 SHOT Show next year.

“We look forward to bringing our entire community together again at a show that will be one to remember,” the statement says.
