COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Colorado Springs Police Department is in the process of buying 525 new TASER stun guns, according to a release put out Thursday by TASER International.

The electronic stun gun manufacturer said the order by the CSPD is for the Taser X2 model, a dual-shot gun which first hit the market in 2011. The X2 is listed on the company’s website for at least $1,200 apiece.

“This is one of the largest Taser X2 orders to date,” Rick Smith, CEO and founder of TASER International, said in the release.

Nancy McCauley, a fiscal services official with the CSPD, said in an email that the city can’t release any more information about the purchase until the contract is finalized. She said the terms are still being revised and the city expects a deal to be done possibly by sometime next week.
