SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police were able to save a suicidal knife-wielding woman and others during a domestic call last month, KREM reported.
Officers were arresting a suspect on Dec. 30 for malicious mischief-domestic violence charges when his girlfriend interfered and attempted to fight the officers.
Officers asked the woman to go back inside. She complied with the request, but grabbed a kitchen knife while in the residence. She began to fight with another person inside the home who tried to disarm her.
Officers intervened and commanded the woman drop the knife. After she refused orders, officers used a TASER to disarm her and took her into custody without further incident.
The department praised the officers for their quick thinking.
“This incident is a great example of the many tactics officers can utilize during tense, rapidly evolving situations,” a spokesperson wrote in a press release. “While not applicable in all instances, the Taser deployment used during this incident prevented what could have been substantial injuries to the female, the officers, and the other occupant in the home.”
The woman was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
