BOSTON — An ominous and spookily lit silhouette invited IACP attendees to “Ask about the Pathfinder Perimeter Breach Warning System.”
Of the thousands of products on display for law enforcement leaders from around the world, few were as easily explained and connected to a critical risk to police officers — ambush when the vehicle is parked — as the Perimeter Breach Warning System. This is an intuitive and logical technology to improve officer safety.
Maker: Federal Signal
Product: Perimeter Breach Warning System
What it does: The Perimeter Breach Warning System is a system of six radar-detection sensors connected to the police vehicle’s Pathfinder light and siren control system. The system can detect a person within a 25-foot circle of protection around the vehicle and issue an alert to the officer, turn on the vehicle’s light bars, sound the sirens or any customizable combination of alerts, lights and sirens.
Key features:
- One-button activation on the steering wheel or siren controller
- Increases officer situational awareness around their parked vehicle
- 25-foot activation zone detects pedestrians
- System can trigger audible and visual signals
- Alerts are programmable
- Deactivate with the siren controller or shift the vehicle out of park
