ELIZABETH, N.J. — Last week, drone manufacturer DJI Enterprise launched its new Matrice 30 drone during a special demo with the Elizabeth Police Department in New Jersey.
The Elizabeth PD’s advanced public safety drone program made the department an ideal choice to demonstrate how drones can be used to save lives, according to the release.
“Recently we’ve used our program to locate lost and missing people, apprehend criminals and most importantly, for officer safety, that’s one of our main concerns in deployment,” said Giacomo Sacca, the Elizabeth police chief.
The Matrice 30 is described as lightweight and portable with integrated wide and zoom cameras. There is also a thermal version of the Matrice 30 that comes with an additional infrared camera, all integrated into a single payload, according to the release.
The Matrice 30 can operate in ranges from -20 to 50 degrees Celsius and has a max flight time of 41 minutes. Along with the Matrice 30, DJI Enterprise also launched a compatible fleet management cloud-based software called FlightHub 2. FlightHub 2 allows operational viewing from the pilot’s RC and any device with a web browser.
“Now, everyone involved in a drone operation, from ground teams to nearby supervisors to managers in their offices, can log into the same mission in real-time and see the data gathered by the drones and the pilots,” the company said in a statement.
