DETROIT, Mich. — Robotic Assistance Devices, Inc. announced that its quadruped robot dog, RADDOG, delivered a baseball to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch at the Junior League World Series, according to a news released.
The Aug. 10 event, broadcast live on ESPN+, showed the Taylor Police Department’s RADDOG strut onto the field carrying a baseball in a special holder. Captains from the two teams met the robot dog on the mound before one player took the ball and raised it above his head to ceremonially start the game, video shows.
Since joining the Taylor Police Department, RADDOG has performed various operational tasks, including routine patrols and surveillance, while also participating in community events and public gatherings, according to the news release.
“RADDOG represents a unique blend of cutting-edge technology and approachability that helps bridge the gap between the public’s perception of law enforcement tools and the need for these tools to be seen as friendly, safe, and helpful,” said Troy McCanna, RAD’s Chief Security Officer.
RAD plans to release a new version of the robot dog in 2025, with improved durability and other enhancements, according to the release.
