FERNDALE, Mich. — A police pursuit was cut short after a citizen crashed into the suspect’s car.

According to WXYZ, an officer attempted to pull over Kolbe Kristopher Jordan, 26, after running a random license plate check. The license plate check found Jordan was wanted on multiple traffic warrants and had license suspensions.

Jordan fled and drove down a sidewalk and across an open area before turning into a shopping center, the news station reported. A citizen driving a van saw the suspect and drove head-on into the suspect’s car.

Police detained Jordan and a passenger. They discovered heroin and a loaded handgun in the vehicle. The passenger was taken into custody, but released without charge, C&G News reported.

Sgt. Baron Brown told C&G News that while they would never recommend the public attempt to stop a pursuit, he said the bystander saved lives.

“He thought that it was in the interest of the people that may not know what’s going on, that were walking around the parking lot, that he put an end to the chase to the best that he could,” Brown said. “The bottom line is, he was worried about people getting hurt.”

Jordan was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding third degree, possession of narcotics and driving while license suspended.
