SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Chilling video shows a deputy narrowly avoid being hit by a high-speed pursuit suspect.

In the video obtained by KREM, Deputy Sky Ortiz is seen laying down spike strips during a Friday pursuit when Jorel Fultz comes barrelling toward him. Ortiz jumps in his patrol car’s trunk to avoid being struck.

“Definitely just wanted to get to a safer location and get a little bit between me and him,” Ortiz told KREM. “Only thing I had at the time was the trunk.”
