DENTON, Texas — An 81-year-old driver led police on a pursuit after officers attempted to pull her over for driving the wrong way.

Police received calls Thursday of a vehicle driving into oncoming traffic and swerving across the road, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported.

When officers arrived, two drivers were attempting to block Nancy Strader in with their cars. She fled until police ordered her to pull over on the public address system.

Strader wouldn’t open her window or doors when police approached her car and ignored officers’ commands. She then fled at speeds under 30 mph until she stopped again after a few miles.

According to the publication, police deflated her tires so she couldn’t flee again. Officers broke Strader’s window when she refused to open her window or car door.

In body camera footage, Strader can be heard telling police she didn’t get out of her car the first time because it’s “my car, my life, my everything.” When they asked her why she wasn’t answering questions, she said “because I hate to answer stupid people. It’s my life.”

Strader was arrested and charged with evading arrest. Strader told WFAA after being released on bond that she “was out riding around.”

“I thought I’m going to go have me some coffee or a sandwich or something because I hadn’t eaten all day. But I never got it,” Strader said.

Police said she was not intoxicated and showed no signs of mental illness or blood sugar issues. Her family said they plan to have her examined by a doctor.
