I am a MD State Trooper who works on I-95. I stopped a Dodge minivan, south on I-95 for a speed violation. Upon contact with the sole occupant, numerous indicators of criminal activity were observed.
When I turned to return to my cruiser, I bent down and looked underneath the cargo area and observed an aftermarket installed compartment. Although I could have used this observation as a last resort for probable cause, I waited for a K-9 to arrive. After the positive alert from the K-9, I gained access to the wires and used “jump” wires to open the trap.
Only two ounces of marijuana was inside, but the vehicle was forfeited to the MSP
