The incident began in Omro when one suspect shot a 65-year-old during a dispute over an online ad for a car, according to the report. The suspects fled the scene in a U-Haul box truck, prompting a pursuit.

Dash camera video shows an officer using a spike strip to slow down the vehicle, causing the tires to shred and debris to scatter on the interstate. Despite the damage, the suspects continued driving on the rims at high speeds.

The pursuit continued until the U-Haul evaded officers to exit the interstate in Fond du Lac. A trooper then used a PIT maneuver to spin out the U-Haul, but the suspects tried to escape in reverse. A K-9 unit and other law enforcement agencies pushed the vehicle into the median, forcing the suspects to surrender.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt praised the coordination among multiple agencies.

“This chase was a testament to the communication and teamwork of all units involved. It highlighted the inter-county relationship between the state patrol, Fond du Lac and Winnebago County sheriff’s offices,” Waldschmidt said.

The suspects, now in custody, face charges of attempted homicide, theft, gun and drug offenses, according to the report. Additional charges from other law enforcement jurisdictions involved in the chase are expected. A loaded firearm was recovered from the U-Haul.
