FORT WORTH — A man accused of kidnapping a woman was arrested after a police chase that led to a crash in Fort Worth on Friday, White Settlement police said in a news release.
White Settlement police received an emergency telephone call around 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, from a woman who reported a man had been holding her hostage for the past four days against her will.
Police said the woman reported that she was able to escape from a white Dodge Caravan in the parking lot of Walmart at 6770 Westworth Blvd. The vehicle belonged to the suspect and he fled the scene, police said.
After the pursuit involving several North Texas police agencies, the suspect, Reginald Jameson, 52, was arrested and faces charges of evading arrest and detention, and failure to stop and render aid in White Settlement.
Jameson will also face charges of unlawful restraint (kidnapping), and assault/family violence by impeding breath and circulation in Westworth Village , authorities said.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections will charge Jameson with a felony parole violation in a case of substantial battery/domestic abuse.
A Westworth Village officer reported that the suspect’s van was fleeing at a high rate of speed through a Lowe’s parking lot, located at 600 Texas 183.
White Settlement officers saw the van and attempted to initiate a traffic stop about 10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of 183.
During the chase, the van ran a red light at Calmont Avenue and Alta Mere Drive and continued southbound on State Highway 183, police said.
The van ran a second red light at the intersection of Alta Mere Drive and Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth , which resulted in a crash with two uninvolved motorists. The van was immobilized, and Jameson began to flee on foot, police said.
The Fort Worth and Westworth Village Police Departments responded to the crash scene to assist with the investigation.
White Settlement officers began to follow the suspect in their cars initially, and ultimately chased him on foot. A White Settlement officer deployed a taser and other officers took the suspect into custody, the department said.
Jameson was transported to the Tarrant County Jail by White Settlement officers.
In one of the cars that was involved in the crash, the occupants reported minor injuries that were treated at the scene. In the second car that was involved in the crash, no injuries were reported, police said.
“I am extremely proud of the heroic actions by our police team, and we are thankful that this woman was able to be rescued by officers safely,” said Chief of Police Christopher Cook . “This case demonstrates the dangers that exist when officers face violent felons who refuse to give up and flee without any regard to our communities and officers. We are grateful that no innocent people or officers were seriously injured based upon the dangerous driving actions by this offender and that this victim of the kidnapping will be OK. We are also thankful for the outstanding partnership between our city, Westworth Village and Fort Worth.”
The victim is safe with the Westworth Village Police Department as they continue their investigation, police said.
