The May 17 incident unfolded after Todd Christopher Marchetti, 51, broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend, identified as Allie, and their son, Jaxson, and held them hostage for several hours, according to the report.

Allie managed to devise strategies to seek help, including a trip to the veterinarian after Marchetti shot the family dog, according to the report. Subsequently, she reached out to nearby construction workers for assistance, enabling her to contact emergency services.

Gunfire erupted within the home when police arrived at the scene, initiating a police standoff, according to the report. Despite efforts to negotiate with Marchetti, he remained inside.

Marchetti was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene before the home caught fire, according to the report. Jaxson, who underwent multiple surgeries, is expected to recover. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Allie and Jaxson.
