CHICAGO — A spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police says Chicago officers have fatally shot a man at an elevated train stop after he pointed two pistols at them.
FOP spokesman Pat Camden says the incident happened around 8 p.m. CST Sunday at the Western/Cermak Pink Line station on the “L,” the city’s public transit train system.
Camden says the 55-year-old man held a gun to his head as officers arrived. Then he allegedly pulled another gun and pointed it at them.
Camden tells the Chicago Tribune investigators were trying to determine whether the man tried to provoke officers into shooting him. It’s a phenomenon commonly referred to as “suicide by cop.”
The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the case as it does with all police-involved shootings.
