STONINGTON, Conn. — An armed man was arrested Wednesday after he led police on a pursuit through Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, NBC Boston reported.

Ian Grant, 36, is the subject of an arson investigation and was wanted on outstanding assault and intimidation charges when he fled police in New Bedford, Massachusetts, CBS Boston reported. Massachusetts State Police joined the pursuit, and one trooper fired their weapon when Grant drove at officers who were trying to stop his vehicle, police said. Grant continued driving, hitting police cruisers, and began driving the wrong direction on the highway.

Massachusetts police called off the pursuit when Grant started driving the wrong way but issued a BOLO and began to search for Grant, CBS Boston reported. Grant was later spotted on a Rhode Island highway where Rhode Island State Police picked up the pursuit and followed Grant into Connecticut. Grant was ultimately taken into custody after a Connecticut state trooper used a PIT maneuver.

Aerial video of the PIT maneuver shows Grant’s pickup truck going off the road and hitting an embankment. More video shows a Rhode Island State Police tactical team negotiating with Grant. According to the report, the team used pepper spray and tear gas to get Grant out of the truck. Police said guns were found in the truck.

Grant is now facing charges of reckless driving in Connecticut, according to NBC Boston. Earlier that morning, a fire broke out at Grant’s Massachusetts home. A fire chief said he saw Grant taking pictures of the fire before driving away, according to the report. The fire remains under investigation.
