FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — Video released by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office shows the pursuit and arrest of an armed 14-year-old carjacking suspect, FOX 5 reported.
The March 11 incident began when deputies spotted a vehicle known to be stolen in a carjacking, according to the report. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, driving recklessly between lanes, video shows.
After driving through heavy traffic for several minutes, the suspect turned into a neighborhood and crashed into mailboxes and drove through yards, eventually emerging onto a main road and crashing into another vehicle.
The suspect then pulled off the road and stopped. He stepped out of the vehicle with a semiautomatic pistol, which he dropped on the ground, according to the report. He complied with officers’ instructions and was arrested without further incident.
Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said the age of the suspect did not shock him.
“We see it more than we want to see. In my 37-year career, it’s become common. And you think of a 14-year-old boy. What was your son doing at 14? Playing ball, probably,” Sheriff Babb said.
