LATHROP, Calif. — Body camera footage and 911 calls have been released following a pursuit that ended with a suspect clinging onto a moving car while trying to evade his arrest.

The video, which was posted on the Lathrop PD’s YouTube page, begins with officers responding to a domestic violence call. The suspect, Juan Valdez, took off in a vehicle after being approached by officers, CBS Sacramento reported.

Officers then began a pursuit, which almost ended when Valdez stopped and talked with officers — still refusing to exit his vehicle. He took off again, driving on the wrong side of the road. Officers tried to hit his vehicle multiple times to stop him, but were unsuccessful.

The pursuit continued until a tire on his vehicle popped. That’s when Valdez got out of his vehicle and attempted to carjack someone on the highway — hanging onto the window as the driver accelerated.

After the vehicle came to a stop, officers approached Valdez. In the video, one officer says, “You’re going to get shot.”

Two gunshots were fired at Valdez. He was taken to a hospital, but later booked into a county jail. He’s facing charges of carjacking, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.
