SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department has released footage of the pursuit and capture of three teenage carjackers, FOX 13 reported.
The dash and body camera videos released March 13 show a Dec. 2023 incident that began when police were called to two failed carjacking attempts, according to the report. The callers reported that a trio of teenage boys drove up to them and threatened them with guns; one would-be victim locked his car and ran away, while another sped off.
Officers then responded to a third call reporting a robbery. While there, one of the victims identified the suspect vehicle near the scene, according to the report. The vehicle then sped away, initiating a police pursuit.
Video shows the suspects fleeing quickly and recklessly, driving over barricades and weaving through traffic.
Body camera video shows officers standing on the opposite side of a barricade on a divided highway as the vehicle approached. The officers deployed a spike strip, successfully puncturing the suspect vehicle’s tires.
After continuing to flee on deflating tires, the suspects came to a stop and attempted to flee on foot. Body camera videos show that all three were successfully captured and detained with little resistance.
The department stated that two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old were booked into a juvenile detention center for investigation of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police, according to the report.
