Lawsuit alleges ‘brutality’ in Pa. videotaped arrest

Police say suspect tried to ram police cruisers during a pursuit and spit in an officer’s face

BRADFORD COUNTY, Pa. — A man has filed a lawsuit against Pennsylvania State police alleging brutality during his arrest.

During the March 2010 incident, police pursued the vehicle of Robert Leone, 33, in connection with reports of an erratic driver involved in a hit-and-run accident, The Daily Review reported.

Leone refused to stop and tried to ram police cruisers until officers used a PIT maneuver to end the chase, police told the Star Gazette.

The suit claims police used their TASERs multiple times and “punched, kicked, stomped and jumped on” Leone while arresting him. Family members say he was pursued by mistake.

In a dash cam video, which doesn’t show the allegations at the center of the lawsuit, an unnamed officer who is off-camera can be heard telling off Leone, who allegedly spit in an officer’s face.

“What the f--- is your problem?” the officer says.

Leone was charged with assault, reckless endangerment and attempting to elude police. In August, he was convicted and remains jailed in Bradford County.
