CROMWELL, Conn. — A Connecticut State Police trooper and a firefighter were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after they were struck by a vehicle on Route 9, officials said.
State police said both sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.
First responders were called around 7:30 a.m. to the southbound lanes of Route 9 near Exit 22S for a rollover crash, state police said. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries in that initial crash, police said.
“While on scene, a trooper and a firefighter were struck by another vehicle at approximately 7:46 a.m.,” Connecticut State Police Sgt. Christine Jeltema said.
She said the state trooper and firefighter were taken to the hospital.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately released. State police also did not say if the driver was hurt if they will face charges.
Route 9 south was shut down for several hours at the Interstate 91 northbound off-ramp. The highway has since reopened, according to the state Department of Transportation.
A state trooper was also hospitalized earlier Wednesday in a crash on Route 15 in Hamden.
